Are you a history fan about to come to Cancun or Riviera Maya? If you like to immerse yourself into the past of the places you visit, make some room in your Mexican Caribbean agenda and explore Mayan ruins such as Tulum and its impressive ocean view, as well as Chichen Itza, that proudly carry the title of New Wonder of the World, and Coba, surrounded by the enigmatic jungle.
Below you can find some recommendations that will help you to enjoy the time you spend in the archaeological sites.
Take care of the amazing heritage of the Mayan ruins
Please don’t touch the sculptures and don’t enter to the restricted areas. Remember: these places are irreplaceable and a legacy for the upcoming generations. If you feel like something is missing, you can take a tour to Coba, one of the few archaeological sites in Yucatan Peninsula where you can climb certain pyramids. The main structure, Nohoch Mul, is tallest construction of this type in the area and you can climb it! Of course, you must be careful in order to avoid an accident.
Keep it as cool as possible
Southeast Mexico has hot temperatures specially during Spring and Summer, that’s why we recommend bringing water with you every moment and wear comfortable clothes made of cotton or linen. If possible, buy a cold bottle of water in every opportunity you have in order to avoid a heat shock, specially between little kids and older people.
Book a tour
The easiest way to explore and really know the Mayan ruins is with a guided tour. Excursions are an opportunity to listen to the history of the place you’re visiting while you admire the site and travel to the past.
